BAC and Ofsted Accreditation from Independent Higher Education Independent Education

Independent tertiary institutions for further education can be accredited not only by Ofsted, who advises the Secretary of State of Children, Schools and Families about the suitability of private tertiary institutions for advanced registration as independent schools, but also by the BAC – British Accreditation Council, which has offers a quality assurance scheme for independent further and higher education since 1984.

BAC accreditation is internationally recognized: therefore, this is a guarantee for GCSE or A-level students abroad that the independent tertiary institution in which they are enrolled is considered genuine by immigration officials and is a leading institution of further education.

BAC accreditation lasts for four years. Inspections are carried out in various ways, including visits that are announced and not announced to private tertiary institutions by inspectors and submissions of annual returns by tertiary institutions.

BAC inspectors focus on various fields to assess the quality of education provision in independent tertiary institutions. They usually observe a number of classes on campus for a certain period of time, and ask GCSE students or sixth / A-level students what they think about their teacher and the activities offered by independent tertiary institutions. They also asked students about the extra support they received outside the classroom. They assess the level of teaching (for example if creative and imaginative) and the level of active participation of GCSE and A-level students: therefore, small class sizes with personalized teaching approaches, which are usually the priority of private tertiary institutions for further education, are viewed favorably by BAC inspector.

BAC also considers whether independent universities have specialist facilities, such as computer and multimedia facilities, and can assess the quality of the work produced, for example at the Arts Center.

The social programs offered by private tertiary institutions are the other main points of assessment: for example, BAC inspectors will look at choices of educational activities (such as cultural trips) and sports available for GCSE students and A-level students. Finally, BAC will consider the work of independent college administration, such as scheduling, and how student complaints are handled by college staff.

Ofsted carries out inspections in cycles which last around three years. Ofsted inspections focus on the quality of teaching at independent colleges of further education and assess whether sixth-form/A-level students achieve their goals in terms of entry to higher education and admission at the university of their choice.

Aspects covered by Ofsted inspections include the attitude of the private college’s students to learning, the level of individual attention offered to them, their involvement in lessons, and how their progress is monitored by the college staff. So, like BAC, Ofsted will award high marks to independent colleges of further education where class sizes are small, with a high level of individual attention.

Ofsted inspector also considers how private tertiary students are assessed, from the point of view of questions and assessments, and evaluates whether the preparation meets the exam specifications, that is if the assessment task is relevant to the expected results.

Another important aspect for Ofsted … Read More

The importance of education

The importance of education

As Singapore shifts its economic focus from industrialization to a knowledge-based economy, gaining academic qualifications becomes increasingly important. Knowledge is now recognized as a key driver for productivity and economic growth.

As a result, it is increasingly common to see students in Singapore take private degree courses to improve their competitiveness in the field of play. The Institute of Technical Education (ITE) has begun offering bridging diploma programs and the Polytechnic has similarly begun offering bridging degree programs only to ensure their students get an edge in society as far as academic qualifications are concerned.

With the growth of China and India, coupled with the influx of strong foreign talents in Singapore, it is increasingly competitive to find good jobs in Singapore. Employers generally prefer to employ such foreign talent because they demand lower salaries, are equally qualified, and are not inferior to Singaporeans in terms of work productivity. Therefore, if Singaporeans do not increase their excellence in terms of academic qualifications and work productivity, they will be inferior to these foreign talents. This highlights the importance of education in Singapore.

The best way to pave the way for good education in Singapore is to start young. Middle school students in particular should not take education for granted. Secondary school education is important because it builds a strong foundation for further study, be it in polytechnics or at universities. Middle school students who take their studies for granted and drop out of school will find themselves very disadvantaged. Armed with the highest PSLE qualifications, they will practically not be able to get any job in Singapore. Tiring jobs such as sweeping plantations will be given to foreign workers because of low wage demands. Therefore, if students at the secondary level do not appreciate the importance of education in Singapore, they will be in a very disadvantageous position.

Schools throughout Singapore are doing their best to revise their teaching methods and syllabus to ensure that their students get the most out of the Singapore education system. Schools have encouraged their students to think outside the box, encourage problem-based solving and creative thinking. Instilling these skills from a young age will give students a comparative advantage over their peers as they grow up.

Therefore, never underestimate the importance of education in Singapore. As a middle school student, one must try their best to excel at level O so that more choices await waiting for further study.… Read More

Advised My Daughter to Get an RN Career Degree

Advised My Daughter to Get an RN Career Degree

When my daughter asked me for career advice, I thought very hard before suggesting anything to her. Although I come from a family of lawyers and I am a lawyer myself, I did not impose for my children to follow in my footstep. They are free to choose any career they like. I have always believed that in order for people to succeed in anything they do, work, hobbies, or even sport, they need to enjoy what they do. That’s why I thought hard, and evaluated where my daughter’s good at, so that my proposal would be appropriate for her.

My daughter has always excelled in all of her subjects at school, but her awards came mostly from Science related subjects. This was the main reason why I thought of healthcare professions, and I remembered that when my daughter was little, she would often play a nurse to her dolls. Until about five or six, her dream was to become a nurse. I suddenly focused on a nursing career, especially when Julia volunteers at the Children’s Hospital near her school during weekdays.

Because I was convinced my daughter, Julia, would be an effective nurse, I started researching on the web the nursing profession. Of all the types of nurses available, being a registered nurse or RN was the one I think would be most appropriate for my daughter. I discovered that acquiring a BSN or Bachelor of Science in Nursing is the first step to becoming a registered nurse. An RN Career Degree usually requires a 4 years study, with coursework that comprises science classes such as biology, anatomy, psychology, and chemistry, as well as general education.

Once the 4 year course is finished, my daughter needs to do a clinical partnership for a few months, and take the NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses) test, administered by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). Once she passes the examination that will test the knowledge she gained through classroom study and practice, Julia can already practice being an RN for the particular state she’s licensed for. I discovered that in order for a nurse to practice her career in a different state, she needs to take the NCLEX-RN for the state she’ll be practicing her nursing profession for.

During my research, I also learned that there is a shortage of nurses in the country. The said shortage will continue for 5 or 10 more years, which is the reason why nurses are very in demand in the United States right now. There is a shortage because the number or patients does not meet the number of nurses required. That plus a few nursing students in the country, equals to continuous scarcity of nurses. Aside from being in demand, nurses are also one of the highly compensated careers in the country.

For those who aren’t available to attend ground school to get an RN Career Degree, I discovered that nursing courses are now available to … Read More
