How do you groom the next generation of leaders in America? Obviously we need them, and as we are busy pulling levers and spinning gears in our education system to fine-tune it, perhaps we ought to be thinking here as well? Sure, math, science, reading, writing, physical education, and creative thinking are paramount, but so too are the learned skills to carry this great American torch forward to future games.
Besides that country is only as good as its education system was 20-years the prior. Okay so, are we living up to the standard – who will our future leaders be, will they even know what they are doing? Not long ago, I was discussing this with an acquaintance and he suggested that to get this done, we’d need “tremendous recognition” program to go along with it, one which was highly visible, even involving our current sports, academic, scientific, business, and political leaders.
Okay, this makes sense, however, brief word of caution to this concept – as long as it’s not false praise, nothing causes more distrust than an over-achiever receiving false praise. But I guess in way what’s the old adage; “it’s amazing what people will do for medal,” and therein lies another problem, recognizing success ads more credence to the group giving the awards than the individual getting the accolades, that’s why groups give them in the first place, it elevates the group.
So, I ask; what’s the name of this future leadership group. That is to say “what group are we giving power too?” And why are we giving it power – does it deserve the power, or loyal group of young followers? Starting young leadership group is fine, if done for the right reasons.
My acquaintance suggested giving our logo’ed attire, certificates, and other things which perhaps could be added to future resumes, or college entrance accolade lists. I guess this kind of reminds me of Boy’s State program. Hey, doesn’t the AlabamNASCamp do this too? Yes, that might work, I even wonder if Boeing, IBM, Intel, GE, Microsoft, Google, Walmart, Northrop, Ford, GM, AT&T, BofA, Raytheon, Wharton, Stanford, Sloan, Harvard, etc, etc wouldn’t jump on board, it would serve them well with pipeline of future leaders and get the kids interested in the future.
What about government leadership, leadership in the non-profit sector too? Future military leaders? All critical components of America’s future – and yes, it does very much matter. Indeed, I ask that you please consider all this and think on it.… Read MoreContinue reading
